Monsoon is such a mix of joy and mess! While we enjoy the smell of rain and hot snacks, it’s also the season when viral infections like flu sneak into our homes — especially affecting our little ones.

As a mommy, I’ve seen how quickly kids catch the flu, even with the tiniest weather shift. That’s why I’m writing this today — not just to share symptoms but to share real-life mommy hacks to handle flu season confidently!

🟣 What Exactly is the Flu?

The flu (influenza) is a contagious viral infection that affects the nose, throat, and sometimes lungs. It’s more common in the monsoon because of the sudden temperature changes and high humidity.

🔴 Symptoms to Watch Out For

  • Sudden fever or chills
  • Runny or blocked nose
  • Sore throat
  • Constant tiredness or body ache
  • Dry cough
  • Sometimes vomiting or loose motion (especially in younger kids)

🟡 How Does It Spread?

It usually spreads through:

  • Air (coughing or sneezing)
  • Touching infected surfaces (toys, hands, etc.)
  • Sharing food or water

So yes, one sneeze in the house and everyone is on the flu train!

🟢 Prevention Tips That Worked for Me

Here’s what I do at home during monsoon:

✅ Keep hand sanitizers handy, especially near the kid’s bed.
✅ Wash hands as soon as anyone comes from outside.
✅ Avoid cold, outside food.
✅ Daily steam inhalation for a few days during peak season.
✅ I also give homemade haldi milk or a small piece of tulsi-ginger mix every morning.
✅ And yes — full sleeve clothes are a must during monsoon!

🔵 Mom’s Personal Tips

Once, my kiddo had high fever in the middle of the night and I didn’t have a thermometer that worked. That day I learnt — always keep a proper flu kit ready at home:

  • Thermometer
  • Paracetamol (after doc’s advice)
  • Nasal drops
  • Wet wipes
  • Extra bedsheet and pillowcases!

🟤 Final Thoughts

We moms can’t stop the rain, but we can surely stop the flu from hitting our homes hard. It’s just about being alert and prepared. And if the fever doesn’t go down in 2 days — don’t wait, show your pediatrician.

Let this monsoon be all about tea, stories, and cuddles — not tissues and thermometers!
