Monsoon Healthy Recipe for Babies – My Favorite Khichdi

indian dal. food. traditional indian soup lentils. indian dhal

Monsoon is that time of the year when our little ones easily catch cold or upset stomach. So, I always try to keep my baby’s meals light, warm, and full of nutrition during rains. One thing that really worked for me and my baby was Moong Dal Khichdi – super easy to make, and trust me mommies, it’s a full comfort food for babies too!

This was literally my go-to meal for my son especially during rainy days. Easy to digest, full of protein, and very soothing on the tummy.

Here’s how I made it:

🍲 Moong Dal Khichdi for Babies

Ingredients I used:

  • 2 tablespoons of yellow moong dal
  • 2 tablespoons of rice
  • 1/4 teaspoon of haldi (turmeric)
  • A pinch of hing (optional – but I added it sometimes for digestion)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ghee
  • Around 1.5 cups of water

🥣 Method (Very Simple):

  1. I washed and soaked both dal and rice for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Then I added them in a cooker with haldi, hing, and water.
  3. Let it cook for 3-4 whistles.
  4. Once it was done and cooled, I mashed it really well so that my baby could eat easily.
  5. And the final touch? Just before feeding, I added a little homemade ghee. Trust me, this was the magic ingredient!

💡 Why I love this dish:

It’s super light, doesn’t cause gas, and fills up the baby nicely. Plus, that warm feeling it gives during monsoon – too comforting! And let’s not forget – ghee helps in immunity and digestion too.

This one is suitable for babies above 8 months, and if your baby is younger, you can make it thinner by adding more water and straining it a bit.

Hope this helps some of you new moms out there! If you’ve got any go-to monsoon recipes for your little ones, would love to know too 😊

Happy parenting,
– Trupti 💕
