Ahh… the moment I hear eye flu – I instantly picture those red, watery, itchy eyes. 😣
Conjunctivitis, or as we all commonly say – eye flu, is one of the most contagious monsoon infections. And guess who’s on the hit list? Yes, our little munchkins. 👶
🧐 So, what exactly is Conjunctivitis?
It’s an inflammation of the conjunctiva – the transparent membrane lining the eyelid and the white part of the eyeball.
During monsoon, all that moisture and dampness becomes a party spot for bacteria and viruses. 👾🌧️
👀 Symptoms to watch out for:
- Red or pink eyes (hence the name 😬)
- Excessive tearing or watery eyes 💧
- Itchiness or burning sensation 🔥
- Crusty eyelids (especially after naps) 😵
- Swelling or sensitivity to light 💡
🚨 What should mommies do?
- Do not panic. It’s common and treatable.
- Visit your pediatrician or eye specialist to confirm if it’s viral or bacterial.
- Isolate the child from school/daycare to avoid spreading 🏡
- Gently clean the eyes with a soft, damp cotton cloth 💦
- Use prescribed drops or ointments as directed 🧴
🚫 And please avoid these:
- Rubbing the eyes – it spreads fast! 🙅
- Using anyone else’s eye drops – every case is different! ❌
- Sending kids out in dusty or polluted environments 🌬️
💡 My Tip:
Keep a separate towel, pillowcase, and handkerchief for your child during this period. Also, keep hand sanitizer handy so no one accidentally spreads it around.
It might seem scary, but with a little hygiene and care, eye flu goes away in 4–5 days.
So mommies, just stay cautious – and trust me, those sparkling eyes will be back in no time. ✨👁️
